Being the wife of a future king isn’t always a walk in the park—and Kate Middleton knows this better than anyone. On Monday, May 26, the British magazine Hello! revealed an incredible incident that happened to the Princess of Wales back in 2020.
Winning the heart of a prince hasn’t always been easy for Kate Middleton. And while the now-happily married couple radiates unity and joy, the Princess of Wales still finds herself in some truly unexpected situations. On August 5, 2020, Prince William and his wife visited residents at the Shire Hall Care Home in Cardiff, Wales—a place they had previously visited. It was a chance to reconnect with one particularly colorful resident: Joan Drew-Smith. To everyone’s surprise, the elderly woman pointed at Kate and asked Prince William, “Is that your assistant?”
A moment that could have been awkward turned into a light-hearted one, as the royal couple burst into laughter. Unfazed, the future queen responded with a wide smile: “Well, that’s true—I am your assistant! And I have been for a long time…” Kate and William had fond memories of their earlier encounter with the outspoken Joan Drew-Smith, who had previously told them—using rather colorful language—that they were “completely hopeless” at bingo! Her refreshing honesty had clearly charmed Prince William, who told staff at the care home: “I love Joan, she’s brilliant. I wish everyone were as honest as she is!”
Kate Middleton and Prince William: A Shared Sense of Humour
That classic British sense of humour isn’t just Kate’s trait—it’s something she shares with her husband. While he may appear a bit serious on the outside, Prince William has proven himself to be quite the joker. One memorable example? In 2017, he was caught on camera dancing to hip-hop in a nightclub during a ski trip to Switzerland—footage that quickly went viral. Speaking to BBC Radio 1, the future king joked about the incident when asked if he planned to attend a concert: “I’ve gotten into enough trouble for my dance moves lately, so I think it’s best if I sit this one out…”
